WEST JORDAN — A fight between two brothers ended in a car crash and one person being taken to the hospital, according to police.

Cristobal Madrigal, 21, of West Jordan, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday for investigation of two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault, drug possession, criminal mischief, and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of children.

The incident began Wednesday night as a fight between Madrigal and his brother over money, said West Jordan Police Sgt. JC Holt. During the altercation, Madrigal’s phone was broken.

Madrigal responded by breaking the taillight of a vehicle that belongs to his brother’s girlfriend, Holt said. The brother responded by damaging Madrigal’s vehicle, which prompted Madrigal to punch both his brother and girlfriend in the head, according to a police affidavit.

The brother and girlfriend then got into a car and attempted to drive away from the scene, but Madrigal “followed behind them at a high speed and rammed his car into the victim’s car, causing them to crash their car,” the affidavit states.

The girlfriend was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

The impact from the collision near 2200 West and 7600 South caused the victim’s car to roll onto its side, Holt said.

When Madrigal was arrested he was found to be possession of methamphetamine, the affidavit states.
