PLEASANT GROVE — A man accused of assaulting his wife and then kicking a police officer in the head while he was being transported to jail is facing multiple felony counts.

Chandler Owen Donkersgoed, 27, of Pleasant Grove, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with aggravated assault by a prisoner causing injury, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony; and criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.
Monday night, Pleasant Grove police were called to an apartment complex on a report of a domestic violence situation. They arrived to find a woman screaming for help, according to charging documents.
Police placed Donkersgoed, who they said was “highly intoxicated,” in handcuffs and told him to sit down as they talked to the woman, the charges state.
But Donkersgoed attempted several times to stand up, disobeying officers’ commands. At one point, as he again tried to stand, an officer pushed Donkersgoed down, “which resulted in him falling forward onto his face. (He) then began screaming and yelling ‘ACAB’ (all cops are bad) at the top of his lungs,” according to charing documents.
Two officers had to “physically carry/drag” Donkersgoed to a patrol car, the charges state.
“Once at the car, (he) began kicking the two officers as they tried to get him into the vehicle. Once in the vehicle, (he) began hitting his face and forehead into the window of the door, then got both feet onto the window and begin pushing and kicking, to the point the window almost broke,” according to the charges.
After being checked by doctors for his head injury, officer Tanner Edwards put Donkersgoed back in his patrol car to take him to jail. But while on I-15, Donkersgoed “started kicking him with both feet in the back of the head. This caused (the) officer to nearly lose consciousness as he began to see stars and became nauseous, almost colliding with the center median of I- 15,” the charges state.
The officer was able to exit his patrol car from the freeway and hold Donkersgoed on the ground until backup arrived.
In June, Donkersgoed was convicted after pleading no contest to an amended charge of attempted aggravated assault in another domestic violence case, according to court records. He was also charged in a domestic violence case in November in Pleasant Grove Justice Court with assault, disorderly conduct and making a threat of violence.
