Brandy Farmer, left, receives the Ohtli Award from General Consul José Borjón during a ceremony at the Consulate of Mexico in Salt Lake City on Monday. Farmer, president and CEO of Centro Civico Mexicano, was honored for dedicating her life to support crime victims, especially victims of domestic violence, and those in vulnerable situations such as migrants, refugees, women and youth. The Ohtli, the highest recognition awarded by the government of Mexico, recognizes and honors those individuals of Mexican or Latino origin whose efforts have contributed to the well-being, prosperity and empowerment of Mexican communities abroad. The word Ohtli means “pathway” in Náhuatl. For Náhuatl poets, Melahuac Ohtli, signifies the true path a person will take to their destiny.
