SALT LAKE CITY — One person was killed in a head-on collision between a passenger car and a semitruck in west Salt Lake City Wednesday evening.

The collision occurred about 7 p.m. just north of 300 South at 5600 West, near the I-80 on- and off-ramps, according to Salt Lake police Lt. David Wierman. The driver of the car, the only occupant, died due to injuries sustained in the collision, Wierman said. The driver’s gender and age have yet to be released.

Investigators closed traffic on 5600 West from 300 South to the on- and off-ramps to I-80 while they investigated the accident.
