SANDY — A Colorado woman faces a felony charge for an assault that police say was prompted by an argument over a popular restaurant chain that ended in a serious crash.
Marla Rachell Hernandez-Martinez, 20, of Denver, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
On July 14, Hernandez-Martinez was driving with her girlfriend on I-15 near 10600 South when the two got into an argument “over the freshness of Cafe Rio in Utah vs. Colorado,” according to charging documents.
Hernandez-Martinez, who was in the passenger seat, became angry, “started to yell and grabbed the steering wheel, causing them to crash into a light pole,” the charges state.
The driver, who was in the hospital for a week, suffered a broken leg, multiple rib fractures and a dislocated hip, according to the charges.
