PROVO — Two people died in a crash involving a car and a semitractor-trailer on I-15 Thursday night.

Just after 9 p.m., a man and a woman in a Mazda 6 were driving north on I-15 near University Parkway in the HOV lane when their vehicle veered to the left for an unknown reason, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver overcorrected and sent the Mazda into the next lane, in front of an oncoming semi, the UHP stated.

“The semi collided with the passenger car in a T-bone style collision. Both occupants, one female and one male, of the passenger car died in the collision,” according to the statement.

Names of the two deceased individuals were not released pending notification of family members. The semi driver was not injured.
