LAYTON — A man was injured early Sunday morning after plowing into a building in Layton, police said.

The crash occurred at 5:25 a.m. at 1010 N. 400 West at a Check City near Hill Air Force Base.

The 26-year-old man, driving southbound on Hill Field Road in a Jeep, was suspected of driving under the influence when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the wrong lane and hit the building, said Layton Police Sgt. Brent Ericksen.

The man was able to climb out of the wreckage, Ericksen said, and was taken to a hospital.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was cited for DUI, the sergeant said.

Photos show the front end of the Jeep inside the building after the crash, with a large hole smashed through the building’s brick. Photos taken inside the business show a crushed vending machine and cement scattered over the floor.
