WEST VALLEY CITY — A man who got into an argument with two people while giving them a ride was killed shortly after stopping the car and making them get out, according to police.
Troy Carter, 27, was stabbed multiple times about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and later died about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday from his injuries at Jordan Valley Medical Center.
According to a police affidavit, Carter’s half-brother ran into an old acquaintance, Colton Kloepfer, 20, earlier Tuesday, “and they exchanged numbers and agreed to stay in touch.”
Later that evening, Kloepfer reached out to the half-brother and they agreed to meet along with their friends, the affidavit states. The relative asked Carter if he could give them all a ride, the affidavit states.
But during the drive, Carter got into an argument with Kloepfer and his friend, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.
Carter pulled over near Peachwood Park, 3510 W. 3965 South, and told Kloepfer and Maison Pullman, 19, to get out, the affidavit states.
“Once all the men were outside the vehicle, Colton and his friend Maison Pullman began assaulting the victim (Troy). During the physical altercation Troy was knocked to the ground where Colton then began stabbing him repeatedly with a large knife. Colton stated he doesn’t know how many times he stabbed him, but it was many,” according to the affidavit.
Carter was taken by his friends to Jordan Valley Medical Center where he died from multiple stab wounds about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Vainuku said. Pullman and Kloepfer also went to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the fight.
Police developed leads and went to a house at 5575 W. Poacher Circle (5430 South), where Kloepfer and Pullman were taken into custody and evidence linking them to the crime was collected, she said.
Both were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of murder.
