SALT LAKE CITY — A man shot Saturday during a drug deal has died from his injuries, Salt Lake police stated Wednesday.
Ghorke Gwen, 20, of Salt Lake City, was shot in head in the parking lot of a multi-unit apartment building near 700 North and 900 West, according to a police affidavit. A friend later told police “the shooting was in relation to complications from a drug deal,” according to the affidavit.
About 50 minutes prior to that shooting, police responded to another call of shots fired, the affidavit states. In that case, the same suspects were believed to have attempted to rob two men at gunpoint, the affidavit states.
“During that incident one of the males fired three shots,” the affidavit states.
Several witnesses were able to provide a suspect description and a license plate number to investigators, according to police.
Esequiel David Torres, 18, was arrested for investigation of murder and two counts of aggravated robbery.
Police state in the affidavit that Torres, who turned 18 about three weeks earlier, was already on probation or parole at the time of the shooting for prior charges filed in juvenile court.
