WEST VALLEY CITY — Police will be sifting through surveillance footage in a West Valley neighborhood as they investigate the shooting death of a 20-year-old man found unconscious in the street Wednesday evening.
Officers responded about 6 p.m. to a report of a male gunshot victim near 6400 S. Wakefield Way, said Kent Stokes, deputy chief of police for West Valley City.
“We were getting a call from someone on scene saying that they had just heard shots fired and then saw the male in the road and then they responded to start helping,” Stokes said. Others reported seeing a car speed away, he added.
Crews were unable to revive Manuel Andres Martinez, 20. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:20 p.m.
Stokes said investigators were trying to figure out whether Martinez was shot and killed in the road or if his body was dumped there. Officers had not pieced together any description of a suspect or vehicle.
