MILLCREEK — A woman who had just finished eating dinner with a friend was shot while in her car Wednesday and later died at a local hospital.

Unified police were still searching Thursday for the gunman and a possible motive.

The incident happened about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 4600 South and 850 East. Linda Nemelka, 57, had just finished eating dinner at a friend’s house and had gotten into her car to drive home when she was shot while still in the driveway, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

Several neighbors heard the gunshots and called 911. Police found Nemelka still in the driver’s seat, according to Gray. The first arriving officer pulled the unconscious woman out of the car and applied a tourniquet to her leg before she was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injury, she said.

Gray said there was no broken glass, indicating that the driver’s side door was open when Nemelka was shot.

Other than a dark colored SUV seen leaving the area, Gray said detectives have no suspect description.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 801-743-7000.
