LAYTON — Layton police have arrested two men in connection to a Thursday night shooting in Layton that left an 18-year-old dead.
Kannon Beesley was in the basement of his residence, near 700 N. Fairfield Road, where he lived with his mother and two siblings who were asleep upstairs, according to Layton Police Lt. Alex Davis. Beesley was with an unknown number of people.
About 11:45 p.m., Beesley was shot twice in the torso, according to Layton police. He went upstairs to tell his mother what had happened and she called 911. Beesley was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The others who were in the basement left the house before police arrived.
On Friday Layton police arrested Michael Hines, 29, for investigation of murder and aggravated robbery, and Jeremiah Wright, 19, for investigation of obstruction of justice. Wright was present when the shooting occurred, and took “substantial steps” to mislead investigators, according to a news release.
Layton police said in the release the shooting was the result of a physical altercation stemming from a “dispute over drug ownership.” Additional details were not released.
