TAYLORSVILLE — A man who fled police was shot and killed by officers in Taylorsville early Saturday morning, police said.

Police were first called about 3:20 a.m. on the report of shots fired in the area of 6200 S. 3200 West. A vehicle was seen after the shooting leaving the area westbound, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

A few minutes later, officers saw a vehicle they described as “suspicious.” They followed, but the vehicle fled, Gray said.

The officers saw the vehicle again after it ran into a stop sign and stopped at about 6250 S. 3200 West. The driver, 28-year-old Bryan Pena, of Salt Lake City, got out of the vehicle and began running down the sidewalk, she said.

The officers followed as Pena went over a fence into a backyard at 6303 S. Stokewater, which is a vacant home.
