Another small aftershock rattled Salt Lake City Thursday morning.
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit about 2.4 miles northeast of Magna, Utah, Thursday morning. according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake hit at 7:41 a.m., according to the USGS.
Residents reported shaking buildings from downtown Salt Lake City.
The earthquake hit on ShakeOut Day, an annual day where millions of people will practice “drop, cover and hold on” method to stay safe during an earthquake. Utah holds the Great Utah ShakeOut each year.
“Nothing like an aftershock to kick off ShakeOut day,” said the Great Utah ShakeOut Twitter account.
A 4.17 magnitude aftershock shook Utah on Tuesday night, as the Deseret News reported. The earthquake occurred nine miles away from Salt Lake City and 2.8 miles northeast of Magna, which was the epicenter of the 5.7 magnitude earthquake from March 18.
Keith Koper, University of Utah Seismograph Stations director and geophysics professor, said this is normal: “It was a good-sized shake. I think probably thousands of people felt it.”
