BEAVER — A Las Vegas woman died Tuesday night after crashing into a semitractor-trailer on northbound I-15.
At about 9:23 p.m., Shantel Cozart, 30, was driving roughly 18 miles north of Beaver near milepost 129 when she struck the rear end of the trailer, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Cozart’s car, a gray Kia Optima, became lodged beneath the trailer near its rear axle, forcing the truck driver to pull over on the shoulder, according to UHP. Cozart was killed on impact.
Investigators suspect Cozart was impaired and speeding, according to a news release from UHP, and witnesses said she was driving at “extreme speed.” UHP Lt. Nick Street said Wednesday the highway patrol has yet to confirm either as a contributing factor.
UHP was able to keep one lane of I-15 open and impact to traffic was minimal, Street said. No other injuries were reported.
