SANDY — A 17-year-old boy died after police found him gravely wounded from a gunshot in the front yard of a Sandy home.
The incident happened just after 11 a.m. near 1100 East and Saphire Drive (9600 South). Police responded to a report of shots fired and found the victim in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds in the home’s front yard, said Sandy Police Sgt. Clayton Swensen.
As of about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Swenson said detectives were trying to piece together what led to the incident and exactly where the teen was shot.
“He was in the front yard when we arrived,” Swenson said. “We are not sure how he came to be outside.”

The boy died from his injuries after being transported to a hospital in critical condition. His name was not immediately released.
A few hours after the boy died, police posted a video of an older model Ford Explorer, two tone, green over gold color, that was driving past a home with a security camera. They asked anyone who recognizes the vehicle or who has information about who owns it or its whereabouts to call police at 801-799-3000.
No arrests had been made Friday evening, and any motive for the attack was still unclear. Swensen said witnesses were being interviewed by detectives to determine exactly what happened.
