SALT LAKE CITY — A 13-year-old Utah girl died from her injuries Sunday when a tree fell on her at a lake in Oregon. The girl’s name or hometown were not immediately available.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was in one of two pontoon-style boats that were tethered together near the shoreline in the Box Canyon area of Detroit Lake.
A large tree fell striking both boats shortly before 3:40 p.m. Sunday. The girl was was taken by boat to Mongold State Park where first responders administered CPR. A medical helicopter was called to transport the girl to a hospital but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to deputies, no other injuries were reported. The teen was at the lake with family when the accident occurred, authorities said.
