SALT LAKE CITY — Utah GOP Reps. Chris Stewart and John Curtis were named to a newly formed task force focused on addressing emerging threats from China.
The task force includes House members from several congressional committees appointed by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. Stewart serves on the House Intelligence Committee, while Curtis is on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Originally designed to be a joint effort with Democrats, Republicans moved ahead without them after they say they waited more than a year for House Democratic leaders to launch the initiative.
The task force will decide which issues to focus on, which could include looking into China’s role in the origins and spread of COVID-19. Others include China’s influence efforts targeting U.S. governments, think tanks, higher education, business and media outlets, and monopolizing supply chains.
