MONA, Juab County — Two people were killed and a third seriously injured when a car was hit by a train near Mona.
A small car was eastbound on Burraston Road about 5 p.m. Saturday when it was hit by a Union Pacific train traveling north at an intersection where the railroad tracks cross Burraston Road, according to a press release from the Juab County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacob Michael Cottle, 22, of La Plata, Maryland, was driving the car, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Utah Valley Medical Center in critical condition. Cassandra Brielle Hatch, 22, of Gilbert, Arizona, was sitting in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead after being transported to Utah Valley Medical Center. Tanner Ryan Davies, 22, of Spanish Fork, was sitting in the rear passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, police said.
Families of those involved in the accident have been notified, and an investigation that includes the Juab County Sheriff’s Office, Union Pacific Railroad and the Utah Highway Patrol is ongoing.
