OGDEN — One man is dead and three police officers were injured after a pursuit in Ogden Tuesday afternoon ended in a crash near the city’s downtown.

At about 5 p.m. a man, whose name was not immediately released, was contacted by Ogden police for a traffic violation at 2600 Monroe Blvd., according to a news release from Ogden police.

However, when the man was asked to step out of the vehicle he refused “and sped away from the scene, dragging one officer from the area in the process,” the release states.

The officer initially held on to the vehicle, but was ejected at 2800 Monroe Blvd. after the man “began to drive erratically.”

The driver continued to flee for about a half mile until he lost control, colliding with an Ogden police vehicle that had pulled off to the side of the road. The man’s vehicle then travelled across lanes, eventually striking another vehicle that had pulled over. The occupant, a 59-year-old man, sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening, police say.

The man fleeing from police sustained critical injuries in the crash, according to the release. Despite efforts from medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.

The three officers injured during the incident were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, according to police.

Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Additional information was not immediately available.
