PROVIDENCE, Cache County — A woman was shot and killed by her ex-husband in an apparent murder-suicide in Cache County late Friday night, authorities said.

At 11:45 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence incident in a Providence apartment after someone called dispatch and told them he was on the phone with the woman and heard her scream “no” and possible gunshots, Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said in a statement.

When deputies entered the apartment, they found the 38-year-old woman dead with gunshot wounds, Jensen said. Her name was not immediately released.

Another witness also heard shots and heard a vehicle leave the apartment complex, Jensen said.

“Investigators were able to identify different locations the suspect may have fled to, and with the assistance of a SWAT tactical team and crisis negotiators, they were able to pinpoint the home where our suspect was located. SWAT, using a robot, was able to determine the suspect was in the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was deceased,” Jensen said.

Victims advocates were on scene Saturday morning helping family members of the deceased, Jensen said.

“This is still an ongoing investigation and no additional information will be available until the investigation is complete. The victim and suspect’s names will not be released at this time giving the family time to make notifications,” the sheriff said.
