MAGNA — The discovery of a woman’s body near the Great Saltair has now turned into a homicide investigation.
Police on Monday announced that the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office had determined Akosita Kaufusi, 42, of Salt Lake City, was shot to death.
Her body was found by a jogger on Saturday off the Frontage Road at the edge of Salt Lake County, according to Unified police. Detectives believe she had been deceased for several days.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said investigators had not determined as of Tuesday whether Kaufusi was killed where her body was found or if it was dumped there. As of Tuesday, police did not have any possible suspect information to release.
Several messages of condolence were posted on social media by friends and family members.
