PLEASANT GROVE — At about 8 p.m. Saturday, a new wildfire began above Battle Creek Canyon in Pleasant Grove, causing evacuations from the trail as well as homes in the area.
The blaze is currently estimated at around 50 acres and is “growing rapidly,” according to Utah Wildfire Info. Buildings between 200 South and Grove Creek Drive, as well as those east of 1350 East are being evacuated.
Multiple crews are currently fighting the fire, including resources from Utah County, Pleasant Grove and the U.S. Forest Service, according to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Officials ask that people avoid the area and not fly drones or aircrafts nearby, as they may impede the firefighting effort.
Pleasant Grove Police Sgt. Mike Bartell said officials aren’t sure how the fire started, but they haven’t seen anything suspicious yet. Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
