SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man accused of inflicting a traumatic brain injury on a Salt Lake police officer during a downtown riot on May 30.
Jakob Carter Nacey, 19, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of assault on a police officer and rioting.
According to a police affidavit, as officers were trying to disperse the crowd, a Salt Lake police officer was hit in the head with a piece of a car door. Two vehicles were overturned and set on fire that night, including a police patrol car.
Police say the officer was hit by a metal object taken from the car of a man whose vehicle was overturned by protesters after he allegedly pointed a bow and arrow at them.
“The officer that was struck with this item had to be transported to the hospital and is still recovering from a traumatic brain injury as of this writing,” the affidavit states.
Nacey was later identified as the person who threw that object. Police say the officer has not yet returned to full duty.
