KANAB — A Murray woman died Wednesday night in a head-on crash in Kane County, troopers said.

The crash occurred as Annika “Annie Jaramillo, 20, and her friends were on their way to Lake Powell in a Volkswagen Jetta driving east when a westbound Toyota Highlander on U.S. 89 crossed into the eastbound lane illegally to pass a pickup truck. The Highlander hit the Jetta head-on, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Chris Bishop said.

Jaramillo, the front seat passenger, died at the scene, he said.

Her mother described her as “a light to hundreds” and said she was popular on the social video platform TikTok.

The driver was flown to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical condition. A back seat passenger of the Jetta was taken to Kane County Hospital in poor condition, according to UHP.

A GoFundMe was established for one of the women injured in the car. Friends say she is in an intensive care unit in critical condition.
