WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan man who police say suffered injuries after being dragged by a truck has died.
Robert Holladay, 61, who was in extremely critical condition Thursday, passed away as a result of his injuries, police announced Friday,
But investigators were unsure Friday if the incident will be classified as a homicide or self-defense.
The man driving the vehicle that dragged Holladay had not been found as of Friday.
The incident happened about 3:30 a.m. Thursday when two men in trucks had a confrontation in a residential neighborhood near 9350 S. 1600 West, West Jordan Police Sgt. JC Holt said. Both men were previously acquainted with each other. Holladay lives in the neighborhood.
Both men stopped their trucks in the middle of the street, and Holladay confronted the other man, Holt said. Detectives believe Holliday opened the second man’s door and began assaulting him, he said.
The second man reacted by driving away while Holladay either hung on or was caught in the door, according to Holt. He was dragged a short distance before falling off.
The driver of the other vehicle never called police, but Holt said detectives believe they know his identity.
Some neighbors heard the commotion and doorbell camera video has been collected as possible evidence, he said.
