SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, has introduced a bill to rename the Utah Test and Training Range in honor of former Utah Rep. Rob Bishop.

In a statement, Stewart said Bishop was a strong and consistent advocate for Hill Air Force Base, the Utah Test and Training Range and veterans throughout his time in Congress. “No one stood stronger in defense of our men and women in uniform. I can’t think of a better way to honor the work and legacy of my good friend than renaming this indispensable military asset after him.”

Bishop, who served eight terms representing Utah’s 1st Congressional District, announced last year he would not seek reelection.

The Utah Test and Training Range, located in Tooele County’s western desert, hosts hundreds of training and testing missions for the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marine Corps each year.
