2 Utah kids in critical condition after being hit by a car while trick-or-treating

Two children were taken to the hospital after they were hit by a car while trick-or-treating Saturday in Taylorsville, police said.

Four children in their early teens were crossing at a crosswalk at 2700 W. Matterhorn Dr. around 7 p.m. when a southbound car struck at least two of the children, Taylorsville Police Chief Brady Cottan said.

One child was listed in critical condition and another is in extreme critical, or life-threatening, condition Saturday night, Cottan said.

"It's terrible," the chief said. "This is a night that we as adults and drivers in general really need to slow down."

The incident is still under investigation and the driver of the car is cooperating, Cotton said.
