OGDEN — Ogden police arrested a man Friday accused of stabbing two of his co-workers.
Kay Karnes, 22, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of attempted murder and aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
Police were called to a business at 960 W. White Drive about 1:30 a.m. where they found a woman “bleeding heavily from her hand,” according to a police affidavit.
As police started questioning witnesses about what happened, they learned that Karnes and another employee got into a heated argument, the affidavit states.
“At one point, Kay went and grabbed a steak-style kitchen knife with a black handle and serrated teeth. Kay then came back to the middle of the warehouse” and resumed his argument with the victim, according to the affidavit.
Karnes tackled the other man and then tried to stab him multiple times, the affidavit states.
“As Kay was attempting to stab the victim in the neck three different times, (the) second victim got involved,” the affidavit states.
The second victim, a woman, grabbed Karnes’ hand to try and stop him. But when Karnes pulled back, he cut two of the woman’s fingers, according to the affidavit. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she received 17 stitches “and could potentially lose the full function in her left hand permanently.”
The first victim told police “that he feared for his life” and “believed that he would have been killed” if the woman had not stepped in to help, the affidavit states.
Karnes fled the warehouse after the incident and was arrested in Clearfield. He told police, though a translator because he does not speak English, that he had grabbed a knife but only intended to scare the victim, according to the affidavit.
