MURRAY — Police say the deaths of a man and woman found inside a Murray house are being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.

The bodies of John Dallas Evans, 50, and Carol Kay Durkes, 55, were found Wednesday at 6122 S. Eagle Nest Drive (1230 West).

Murray police discovered the bodies after being asked by family members to check on the couple after they had not heard from them for a few days.

Evans died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and a gun was recovered at the scene, according to a brief statement released Friday by police.

The cause of Durkes’ death remained under investigation Friday. Police said they do not believe she was shot, but she did have “obvious signs of trauma” to her body. The case is still “an active investigation,” Murray police announced Friday.

Police say they had responded to the residence one time in the past on a domestic violence call, but not recently.
