The Ice Castles in Midway, a popular experience for Utahns for the past decade, opened Friday to the delight of fans.

Ice artisans worked around the clock to get the attraction at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center ready for Friday’s grand opening. The interactive experience features ice-carved tunnels, fountains, slides, frozen thrones and cascading towers of ice embedded with color-changing LED lights.

Artisans spend about eight weeks growing, harvesting and hand-placing icicles to create the life-size fairytale playground, according to the staff. Mild temperatures can wreak havoc, but the attraction is ready for visitors.
