Dean Martin put it best when he had a break out hit that was written in steamy southern California in July.
Nicknamed the “King of Cool,” Martin had one request: “Let it snow.”
The song was written in the 40s during a horrible heat wave in California.
By 1959, Martin captured what everyone wanted: Let it snow.
But this year, Mother Nature is not being very kind to Utah. It feels like spring and it should not.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the state broke records in November. It was unseasonably warm, following an October that was exceptionally wet.
In fact, the federal agency said it was the wettest October since records first began being compiled in 1874.
So what in the world is happening this month?
According to Powder.com, the Sierras are being treated with a flourish of snow thanks to an atmospheric river.
A multi-day storm cycle will bring snow from Wednesday through Friday, the outlet reported.
In Utah, the story is a little different: Ski Utah is reporting abysmal results so far this year, with little snow at the state’s ski resorts.
There is hope, maybe
According to the daily forecast on Ski Utah, a storm is expected to hit Utah over the next few days, bringing rain with “very high elevation snow Christmas Eve through Christmas Day.” Lower temperatures will bring snow at lower levels Friday and Saturday.
So, will Dean Martin’s request come through ever? Not likely this year.
The National Weather Service is showing December is on track to go down as the warmest December on record — and it is not just Utah. Most western states are experiencing similar conditions.
So, Utah, unless you’re willing to hike to the very top of one of the state’s tallest mountains, your White Christmas dreams probably won’t appear this year.
