Police said there is no threat to the public after a suspicious letter at the Salt Lake City Justice Court prompted evacuations Wednesday afternoon.
The letter contained vague threats and a green powdery substance, according to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Greg Wilking.
“It’s something that happens, unfortunately rather routinely, suspicious packages, and we have to treat those packages as if they are a threat, and sometimes is causes this kind of response,” he said.
Evacuations at the courthouse, located at 333 S. 200 East, happened about 2:30 p.m.
The courthouse was cleared as a precaution, according to Wilking. However, he didn’t say whether the letter was dropped off in person or mailed, or if the threats were directed at any particular person.
He also didn’t say what the substance was, but he said it was deemed unharmful.
