Utah once led the nation in producing Eagle Scouts. But in 2019, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ended its 105-year partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, causing membership in the state to plummet.
Now rebranded as Scouting America, the organization is rebuilding — with smaller, coed troops, new sponsors and youth who are choosing to participate. While the numbers have declined, leaders say the program is stronger in purpose and more diverse than ever.
