Free Trade in North America is up for review. Here's what's at stake
Global trade experts gathered in Utah this week for the Crossroads of the World summit.
One hot topic was the upcoming review of the USMCA.
Negotiated and implemented by President Donald Trump during his first term. He touted it as “the best and most important trade deal ever made” by the United States.
Since its signing in 2020 - President Trump’s support of the USMCA has softened. Tariffs enacted in his second term violated the agreement, straining relationships between the three countries. Now, a required review of the USMCA this summer could be contentious and there’s fear Trump could pull the US out of the deal completely.
Experts say that wouldn’t be good for any country.
