Actress Sally Field says she cheated death in the runway mishap involving Merv Griffin's private jet last week. On takeoff from Aspen, Colo., the jet went out of control and plowed into another private jet parked by the runway. Field, her husband Alan Greisman and their 11-month-old Sam escaped unharmed but dampened by jet fuel. "All I was thinking was, `Hold on to Sam!' I didn't care if I broke every bone in my body. The belt saved our lives, but I thought I'd crushed Sam to death. But my body must have received his blow; he had no whiplash at all," she told People magazine. She is still haunted by the accident. "It makes no sense that the plane didn't blow up. It makes no sense that we're still alive, and I have to live with that feeling," she said.
