"Arnold," as in "Arnold Melville," is now gone completely.

Cartoonist Kevin McCormick has called it quits on his bizarre comic strip that had a regular vocabulary of words such as "Gack" and "AIEEE."The strip's final appearance was last weekend in 17 newspapers.

In its heyday, "Arnold" appeared in 40 newspapers (including the Deseret News up until last fall).

Meanwhile, McCormick will continue to work full-time at a developmental center for the handicapped in Rochester, N.Y. He only did "Arnold" as a fun, part-time job.

McCormick told Neal Rubin of Knight-Ridder Newspapers that it was simply the right time to stop doing the strip and that economics didn't have anything to do with his decision. .
