A 100-year-old man sliced into the world's biggest cake to mark the 100th anniversary of Fort Payne, Ala.

The 128,238-pound, 12-layer cake - 32 feet wide, 80 feet long and shaped like the state of Alabama - was unveiled Wednesday at the local fairgrounds before 6,000 people. Members of the country band Alabama, who hail from Fort Payne, sang "Happy Birthday."Ed Henderson cut the cake with a sword and helped serve pieces.

Gary Gengozian, editor and publisher of the local newspaper, The Times Journal, came up with the idea of baking the birthday cake because the EarthGrains Inc. bakery is the town's largest employer, with 750 workers.
