Hazelle B. Macquin, 91, the first dean of the University of Utah College of Nursing, died Monday, Dec. 18, 1989, in a Bountiful nursing home of causes incident to age.
She joined the U. staff in 1942 and headed the nursing program from 1948 to 1955. She later was director of graduate nursing programs until her retirement.Macquin was born June 11, 1898, near Stanford, Ill. She was a graduate of Illinois State Normal University, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1935 and a master of arts degree from Columbia University in 1941.
She served as secretary and literary assistant and was a captain in the National Service Battalion in the U.S. Signal Corps. During World Wars I and II she worked in the Red Cross in the United States and France.
She was president of the Utah League of Nursing and vice president of the National League of Nursing.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call 7-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services Friday. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
