Sacramento Kings forward Ricky Berry held a semiautomatic pistol to his head and pulled the trigger within an hour of an argument with his wife, according to an autopsy report.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office said Tuesday that the autopsy revealed no diseases that would have contributed to a suicidal state of mind. Results of toxicology tests, which are routinely performed as part of an autopsy to determine the presence of drugs or alcohol, will be available next week.

Teammates and friends, shocked over the death of the 24-year-old Berry, said he appeared happy and untroubled in recent days.

Coroner's office spokesman Richard Miles said Berry and his wife, Valerie, argued in their new suburban house at about 11:45 p.m. PDT Sunday and that Mrs. Berry left about midnight to spend the night elsewhere.

Ricky Berry killed himself with a 9 mm pistol "within the first hour after midnight," Miles said.

Since the body was discovered a relatively short time after death, coroner's officials can be "fairly accurate in pinpointing" the time.
