A Roosevelt teen vocalist who teaches piano, enjoys baking pies and plays powder-puff football has
been crowned Miss Utah State Fair.She is Kerilyn Lowe, 17, a senior at Union High School, Roosevelt, and daughter of Dallas and Suana Lowe, who won the honor in competition with 23 other contestants. She will reign over the fair, which runs through Sept. 17.
Heidi Keisel, 19, a Snow College student and daughter of Tim and Leslie Kiesel, Moroni, Sanpete County, was chosen first attendant; Jennifer Nakken, 19, daughter of Herb and Janet Nakken, Cedar City, a student at Southern Utah State College, second attendant; and Kimberly Gubler, 18, daughter of Kerry and Patricia Gubler, La Verkin, Washington County, a 1989 graduate of Hurricane High School, third attendant.
In the talent competition, Lowe performed a vocal solo entitled "Don't Rain on My Parade." She hopes to receive a degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University.
A Sterling Scholar in math, Kiesel plans to graduate from Snow and obtain a degree in medical research at the University of Utah. Nakken is a modeling school graduate and is a dance education and nutritional counseling major at SUSC. Gubler, who was a Sterling Scholar in English at Hurricane High, plans to major in English at Dixie College.
