Brown-haired hazel-eyed Heather Cowan, 17, was selected as the new Miss Juab County at the opening of the Juab County Fair.

She was crowned by Shannon Sutorious, last year's queen and second attendant to Miss Utah State Fair.Cowan is the daughter of Glen and Susan Cowan of Nephi. Selected as first attendant was Tawhnye Coombs, 17, daughter of Doyle and Ann Coombs, Nephi. Second attendant is Holli Skinner, 17, daughter of James and Evelyn Skinner, Nephi.

Cowan will represent Juab County during fair week and at the Utah State Fair this fall.

She played a classic flute sonata as her talent number. Each of the contestants was judged modeling a formal and a street dress, presenting a personal thought, performing a talent number and in answering a question.

Cowan, a senior at Juab High School, is an honor-roll student, a cheerleader, and is a member of the first string girl's basketball team. She has also been a band majorette. She likes horseback writing.
