A Florida insurance company has an out-of-this-world deal for anyone who lives in fear of an unwanted close encounter with extraterrestrials.
The UFO Abduction Insurance Co. sells its policy for $9.95 and pays $10 million in the event a policyholder is kidnapped by aliens from an unidentified flying object.Should the abductor mistake the policyholder for a nutritional food source or refuse when asked to practice safe sex, the policy provides a double indemnity of $20 million.
There is a frequent-flier exclusion that limits claims to one flight per policyholder.
In addition to the $9.95 charge, Mike St. Lawrence, president of the company, said an applicant must pass a three-question test:
-Do you have a sense of humor?
-Do you take this insurance coverage seriously?
-Were your parents related before they got married?
UFO policies are not awarded to anyone who answers "yes" to more than one question.
St. Lawrence said he has sold 1,200 policies by relying on the word-of-mouth approach to advertising.
No one has attempted to collect, so far. Kidnap victims are required to fill out claim forms and to provide the tag number, if any, of the alien spacecraft.
Interested parties should note that the policy pays $1 a year for 10 million years.
