"Phoebe's Place" is a new comic strip that premieres today in the Deseret News, replacing "On the Rocks."
"Phoebe's" is about an owl (Professor Van Hooton) and a pussycat (Phoebe). The professor comes to Phoebe's Victorian house because he needs quiet quarters in which to do his research. Phoebe is looking for tenants (preferably single ones) after the loss of her spouse. So, Professor Van Hooten takes residence in the attic and soon discovers that the rent is the least of the price he has to pay because of Miss Phoebe's flirtatious attempts at romance with him.
This new comic is distributed by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. It is based in part on the poem, "The Owl and the Pussycat."
The cartoonist is Bill Schorr. He's no newcomer to the comic strip scene since he is also the creator of two other comics - "The Grizzells" and "Conrad."
Schorr lives in Kansas City with his wife Arlene and their two daughters. He's the editorial cartoonist for the Kansas City Star. He is a graduate of California State University in Long Beach and was raised in Southern California.
