At least 35 people, including a group of miners whose truck plunged into a ravine, died as a result of the havoc wrought by Hurricane Diana when it hit Mexico's eastern coast, authorities said Thursday.

Diana careened into the Gulf Coast Tuesday, unleashing 110-mph winds and heavy rains that destroyed homes, uprooted trees and damaged highways and communications installations.The official Mexican news agency Notimex reported Thursday that 35 people were dead, 55 missing and 60 others injured as a result of the hurricane.
