EX-CAMPAIGN OFFICIAL OF KENNEDY DIES AT 62

Stephen E. Smith, brother-in-law and former campaign manager of President John F. Kennedy, died early Sunday at his Manhattan home after a long illness, a Kennedy family spokesman said. He was 62.

Smith, the husband of Jean Kennedy Smith, had managed JFK's 1960 presidential campaign and served as a financial adviser to members of America's most famous family.Family members, including Mrs. Smith and Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., were with him when he died, said Kennedy spokesman Ed Martin. The nature of the illness was not disclosed.
