A man police say shot a Murray coin shop dealer in the head and left him for dead was charged with attempted murder Monday in connection with the May 4 robbery.
Charles Thurman Sinclair, 44, was charged with attempted criminal homicide and aggravated robbery in 3rd Circuit Court. He is currently being held in a jail in Palmer, Alaska, where he was arrested on a Billings, Mont., warrant charging him with two counts of murder and robbery of a coin shop there, Murray police said.On May 4, Kelly Finnegan was at his job as a clerk at Legacy Rare Coins, 153 E. 4370 South. Court documents say that Sinclair entered the store about 4:30 p.m., hung around for a couple of hours, then shot Finnegan in the forehead with a small-caliber handgun.
Finnegan wasn't seriously wounded, as the bullet just grazed his scalp. But he fell to the floor and played dead, according to court documents.
Sinclair, also known as Jimmy Weir and Jim Stockton, allegedly covered Finnegan with a curtain before running off with about $60,000 in rare coins. Some of the stolen property has been found in his possession, the complaint states.
Police in Montana have begun extradition proceedings to have the suspect brought there from Alaska, but Sinclair is apparently fighting that extradition.
