Singer Marie Osmond was treated in a hospital emergency room Wednesday night and released early Thursday after collapsing on stage at the Stark County Fair.
A nursing supervisor at Aultman Hospital confirmed Osmond was treated and released. No other details were made available. The 30-year-old performer was scheduled for a show at 8 p.m. at the fair's main grandstand and took the stage at 8:45, giving the crowd no reason for the delay. She had performed for about 45 minutes when she collapsed during a rendition of her new single, "Hurricane."
Her manager, Karl Engemann, said Osmond had suffered Wednesday from a stomach virus and was ill at show time.
"She had a severe stomach flu today, the kind that just dehydrates you and saps your strength," Engemann said Wednesday night from his office in Provo. "She didn't want to disappoint the people at the fair who came to see her and she went on to do her show. It got the better of her and she collapsed."
He said her next scheduled show is in Rolling Heights, Ill., on Saturday.
Dan Kane, entertainment writer for The Repository, Canton's daily newspaper, said the crowd was told the show was canceled. No explanation was given as to what happened.
