Bill Doran, after turning down a trade to the New York Mets, was sent by the Houston Astros to the Cincinnati Reds on Friday for three players to be named.

Astros general manager Bill Wood worked out a deal late Thursday with the Mets for Doran, provided they could sign the second baseman.Doran, eligible for free agency at the end of the season, wanted to keep his options open. So when he did not agree to a contract extension with the Mets, the Reds took him without any conditions.

Doran, 32, is batting .288 with a .405 on-base percentage. He has six home runs, 32 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 109 games.
