More than 2 million people visited Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City during the summer months, and a record number visited the site in August, LDS Church officials said.
The number of visitors totaled 2,018,039 during June, July and August, said complex director Ralph O. Bradley in a prepared statement released Friday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Bradley said there were a record 678,108 visitors in August, a 10 percent increase over August of last year.
In addition, the number of buses transporting visitors to the square jumped 52 percent over last year, with 1,725 in the first eight months of the year and 506 in August alone, he said.
Meantime, attendance last month at the weekly Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcasts rose 25 percent over the same time last year, to 26,939, Bradley said, adding that attendance for the year is up 14 percent.
